Supermarket robberies are once again hitting the sector hard

robos en supermercados

Aragon, Valencia, Andalusia… In recent months, supermarket robberies have increased significantly. So much so that even on TikTok we can see videos that show, with total impunity, how to carry out this type of action.

The retail sector loses more than €1.8 billion a year to theft. This problem affects large chains and small shops alike, with an urgent need for retail security systems to deal with it.

Do you know what item thieves want the most?

You probably think it’s a luxury item, something you don’t usually consume, perhaps a premium drink… Well, not exactly, it’s something much more common: the favourite product of thieves is olive oil.

Unknown loss is one of the most serious problems that supermarkets face every day, accounting for 54% of financial losses in the food and beverage category alone. Liqueurs, oils, Iberian cured meats, shaving products and wines are the preferred products of those who steal.

But this is more than just an anecdote, as the increase in trolley theft has a significant financial impact:

  • Supermarkets have to bear the costs of theft, with losses running into the millions.
  • In very serious cases, companies cannot cope with these losses and are forced to close down.
  • Consumer perception is negative, as it increases the feeling of insecurity and affects the shopping experience.

Carttec Group: one problem, one solution

Faced with this major inconvenience and this significant decrease in profits, Carttec Group has developed the perfect solution for supermarket thefts: CartControl and Purchek. The first prevents theft of the trolley itself and the second prevents theft of the contents by blocking the exit of the trolley that has not passed through the checkout.

These systems are complementary and, thanks to their effectiveness, provide a very quick return on investment. Incorporating them into your business means preventing unknown loss and improving your brand image so that your customers continue to consider your brand the right choice.
