BASKETS WITH WHEELS BECOME ESTABLISHED IN SUPERMARKETS

CESTAS CON RUEDAS

Spanish consumers are visiting supermarkets more frequently, making quicker purchases and buying smaller volumes. This shift in consumption habits is driving the growing use of baskets with wheels, equipment that provides greater convenience while moving around the store and contributes to a more agile and practical shopping experience.

The way people shop in supermarkets in Spain is clearly changing. According to the report “The FMCG Market in Spain. Key Trends for 2025” prepared by NIQ, Spanish households spent around €131 billion on groceries in 2025, representing an increase of 5.8% compared with the previous year.

However, the transformation is not only reflected in overall spending. The way consumers shop is also evolving. It is increasingly common for shoppers to visit the supermarket several times a week and make smaller, quicker and highly targeted purchases, adapted to the immediate needs of the household.

In many cases, the time spent in the store is reduced to just a few minutes: enter, pick up what is needed and leave. This new rhythm of shopping, more dynamic and functional, is directly influencing the type of equipment customers use within the store.

As a result of these changes, supermarket baskets with wheels are gaining increasing prominence. Compared with the traditional trolley, this format is better suited to the smaller-volume purchases that characterise today’s consumer. Their design makes it easier to move through the aisles, allows greater freedom of movement around the sales floor and reduces the physical effort required during the shopping journey.

At the same time, their compact size contributes to smoother circulation within the store, something particularly valued in urban supermarkets or during peak shopping periods.

The evolution of consumer habits is leading many supermarkets to introduce this type of retail equipment. As purchases become more frequent, quicker and smaller in volume, tools such as baskets with wheels are becoming established as a practical solution that naturally enhances the consumer shopping experience.
