Goldman, a visionary businessman from Oklahoma, observed this problem closely in his grocery chain. At first, he tried a simple solution: employees would offer empty baskets and carry the full ones to the checkout. But the system soon became chaotic \u2014 narrow aisles and the constant movement of clerks caused more inconvenience than help.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was then that the idea that would change everything arose. Goldman adapted a folding chair, added wheels, and placed a wire basket on top. The first models took up too much space and had to be dismantled for storage. In 1947, Orla E. Watson introduced the swinging rear gate, which allowed trolleys to be nested one inside another.
