Timeline of a great start to the season
After the demanding qualifier, held at Copper Mountain (Colorado) last Thursday, with two heats that left 26 of 34 riders out of the final, Queralt achieved first place with a leading round of 94.33 points.
The first event of the FIS halfpipe World Cup, with 8 riders competing, was held in three rounds at Copper Mountain (Colorado) after a preliminary of 2 heats that left 26 of 34 riders out of the final, and Queralt achieved first place with a leading round of 94.33 points. Already in the final, Queralt Castellet worked her magic in the final round and won the bronze. She went out to secure it and achieved it with a great repertoire of tricks (Switch BS540, Cab7, FS5, BS5, FS720). Only Xuetong Cai and Sena Tomita were ahead of her.
«I am very happy with my third position. It was a difficult day because the pipe was quite complicated and although I wanted to do a more complicated round, in the end I had to play it safe and do a round that secured me a good position», … «I’m very happy with third place and it’s a great way to start the season».
In the second event, the Dew Tour Superpipe, also held in Colorado, Queralt returned to the podium after winning the bronze, being only one point away from the gold (Chloe Kim with 96 points, Queralt Castellet with 95 and Xuetong Cai with 89).
Queralt began sweeping away the competition, securing her place on the podium from the first round with 93 points. Totally focused, she continued to give it her all with a second round where her back-to-back 9s stood out. In the third, final and decisive round, Castellet did it again by scoring 95.00 points, finishing in second place at the last moment as Chloe Kim, the last participant of the day, finished with a great winning round of 96.00 points, followed by Xuetong Cai in third place with 89.00.
«I’m very happy with today’s competition and with this silver, which beats my bronze medals in the last two events. The idea for today was to land the two back-to-back 9s and the 1080 at the bottom of the pipe that had been working for me in practice, but the spot was different today and I wanted to secure a final round with these two 9s and a clean 7 at the end, knowing it was going to be a pretty good round and it went really well,» she confesses excitedly.
Queralt’s main goal this year is the Olympic Games in Beijing, which will be her fifth, and she has started the season in a spectacular way. With great feelings, getting onto the podium in both the races held.
From Carttec we celebrate this fantastic start to the season where Queralt Castellet has once again shown her great strength and preparation, values that are always present in Carttec.
Good job Queralt!
Let’s go for it!
